A Hagiografia e Santo Agostinho na Pintura
Após publicar uma citação de Agostinho em meu último post, fiquei pensando nas imagens que o retratam, pintadas ao longo dos séculos. Poucos homens têm sido tão retratados nas artes quanto Aurelius Augustinus (354-430), o “Santo Agostinho de Hipona”. A seguir, as poucas pinturas que selecionei, sendo a maioria da Renascença e do Barroco. Várias destas pinturas retratam um Agostinho muito distante do que foi realmente o grande pensador na época da queda de Roma. A arte vai muito além do mero retrato, não obstante.
